American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Austin is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Austin peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. I have loved lick ice creams for years. Hell, the burnet location knows my order before I walk in the door. And for years, when I tell the workers I have a severe nut allergy they 1) grab a new scoop from the back and 2) get a new tub from the back. But on May 8, 2026, around 8:30pm at the Lick S Lamar location, the worker got a new scoop. And started scooping. From the tub. The one that all the other nutty scoops touch. When I advocated for myself, because my allergy is life-threatening, I said a simple, βoh, they usually get a tub from the back for me.β To which I was met with a sharp, βusually we donβt, actually.β I have not been back since. If you have an allergy and care about your life, go to the burnet location.

Nut allergy friendly: they do label allergens and they won't open a new container, but they did get me a new scoop Parked in the garage for free with no issues. Quite busy at 8:15PM on a Sunday! About ten people ahead of us and only two people working so it took about 10-15mins with people asking for samples and such. While we were there, it was always a packed line so it definitely gets really busy from 8-9PM! We got three larges for a total of twelve flavors, a little bit of overlap: Mine: Dark Chocolate Olive Oil and Sea Salt - Really liked this, the bitter saltiness offset the creaminess really well. Coffee with Cream - A very light but roasty coffee, like a light coffee. I liked this!; Goat Cheese, Thyme and Honey - The herbal flavor is more subtle than I expected! Not too sweet, liked this one Sweet Cream & Strawberry - this one didn't stand out much to me Others: Roasted Beets and Fresh Mint - I really liked this one! The beets and mint hit on the back of your tongue, yum Chocolate Chocolate - Very intense chocolate, not too crazy about it though Cookies & Cream - Surprisingly good! I liked this one Very Strawberry - way more strawberry than the sweet cream. I'd recommen

Not as good as the first time. While both employees were cheery and friendly, the scoops they served up were on the small size. For the price charged and ice cream received, it was disappointing. Flavors were mediocre too.

I had an amazing experience at Lick Honest Ice Creams! While I was looking up the shopβs signature ice cream features with AI in store, a young staff member was extremely warm, kind and patient. She kindly introduced their specialties and different flavors in detail, and generously offered me three samples to taste. The service is thoughtful and impressive. Delicious ice cream paired with wonderful customer service. I will absolutely come back and highly recommend this place!

Absolutely loved my experience here! The ice cream is creamy, flavorful, and made with high-quality ingredients you can really taste. The shop has a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the staff were super friendly and patient while I decided on my flavors. I tried apple butter , and it was incredibleβrich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Definitely a must-visit spot for anyone who loves unique and delicious ice creams. π¦β¨
